Yeah the early 80s through early 90s was his most appealing and creative time period. I don't know why he can't draw that way anymore. The stuff he does now is just ugly.
Wow. I never saw this before. It's just great though. Those character designs are so unique, it's unbelievable. The colors are fabulous, as well as the backgrounds.
This era of John's work is pretty much the most inspiring part of his career. And as for the stuff he does now, I wouldn't say it's bad or anything, but he has his priorities in the wrong order.
His concerns seem to be to make a "technically well done drawing" but it loses it's appeal.
And I also wanted to say that these drawings have such a heavy Lynne Naylor inpiration to em. Same thing with Big House Blues, a lot of Lynne Naylor inpiration. Do you know if she worked on this intro?
If there is anything else I can say, it would just be that I'd want to see some more animation like this.

Me thinks it's because either he just has lost his sense of appeal or that people that used to work for him will not give him the time of day. I still find his stuff today good but it just no where close like this introduction, so warm and appeaking.

No his concerns seem to be jerking off and being "influenced" or finding his "muse" in younger less experienced artists, instead of being inspired by all the classic great cartoonists....and the result is wonky shitty drawings that stray super far from the solidity and appeal of older cartoons that he ironically raves about in all his blog posts.
Thanks for adding the animation. BTW, John himself can go straight to the stinking bowels of hell for all I care. I was a fool to think he was a decent person. Anyone that wants to know what I am jabbering about can E-mail me.
Hey I worked on that intro. I layed out some of the scenes. I don't remember which ones tho' I really remember hating the movie and thinking that the director was totally out of touch with what makes humans tick and what makes a character interesting.
I have always said that Lynne taught John how to draw girls. She taught me how to draw girls. In fact I would venture to say that her influence on the animation industry is equal to his. And she's really cute, sweet and funny too!
